Angerkill raised money back in
December to get a tombstone for our buddy, Eric. We decided
on a bench instead at the suggestion of one of our close friends; This respects
the wishes of his family while being the PERFECT memorial for Eric.
Dave and I went to Fort Worth to pick up the bench we had made for him
yesterday and returned this evening. These pictures are from tonight.
We drove in at about 6, stopped at home
to pick up a shovel, and headed straight to the cemetery. We didn't
want the bench in our possession any longer than we needed to have
it for fear that something would happen to it! We were told
earlier by the company that it would take 4 people to move, but we
moved it fine with just two (in and out of the hotel room in FW). We
made one phone call to our friend Roger, someone who we thought absolutely
needed to be there this evening, and he dropped what he was doing and showed up
with a flashlight.
It took a while to get it right - over an hour. Leveling the
sides of the bench was a bitch and the soil was HARD with lots of rocks. As you'll see in the pictures, Dave and Roger took turns
digging to get it level while I took pictures and kept a loaded
bowl.
Thanks to all of your donations and
support, we have been able to bring closure to ourselves and possibly others that visit his
site.
While we were setting it up, Roger
said it felt like a dream. Indeed.... it was surreal. It's been five long years... Now we can all think of him
and feel good that he's taken care of in a way he deserved.
Thanks to
everyone who helped us.. whether you were fortunate enough to know him or not,
this is something that meant so very much to us and we thank
you.
